Week 2, Brainstorm Project Topics

For the class project I am proposing to consider the following topics to use in a portfolio form, but not in this order. I really think I will try to stick to choice number two. I could not resist the adorable image of Ganesha. Those eyes in this image are amazing.

1. Ganesha's practical guide to being a god
Shri Ganesha
I was thinking it would be kinda fun to think about Ganesha writing a self help book full of wisdom to market to other Hindu gods and goddess to help them remove the obstacles in their paths of human antics. He could use his own personal life experiences to show how to handle life altering experiences with humor and grace. His parents are pretty dysfunctional and he has the scars/blessings to prove it (his elephant head for example).

2. Rama and Sita in couples counseling

I have written my first story about Rama and Sita in couples counseling and I found it kinda fun to write in this manner. I have seen the movie of Sita Sings the Blues and I love it. Sita is a saint for putting up with all of Rama's dramas. But being as they are immortal gods incarnate and even still very high ranking humans they really do have to fix their issues and move on. In the spirit of our modern mental health care, it would be a hoot to be a fly on the wall in a couples session with these two. I like the image of the people playing the television series because it makes the characters seem more identifiable with the updated themes.

3. Kali The Vampire

I know that Kali is the destroyer, but she is also the great mother. She is also a blood drinker, or vampire? I do love my vampire shows and books. I might be fun to run with that theme, and Kali would be a great asset to that theme because she was created by the gods to slay enemies and such. It could work with the right stories. But I don't know quite where to start with it.

4. The Dreams of Maya

My daughters name is Maya. Maya in the Hindu traditions means illusion. Some believe that all we see around us here is not real, but illusion. Maya also brings us dreams. I saw a really awesome portfolio with this theme done by another student that was spectacular, but I feel awkward copying someone else's idea. I think I could still pick different stories to work with and pull it off, but it just doesn't feel like my first choice.
